Julie is the host of Opening Statements with Julie Grant, weekday mornings at 8:00 am ET on Court TV!  The former prosecutor and victims’ rights champion brings a powerful blend of legal expertise and journalism experience to the network.

The licensed attorney, former prosecutor and trial expert earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron.  She further developed her trial expertise by earning her Master of Laws (LL.M.) with Honors in Trial Advocacy from Temple University’s School of Law.  While serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Allegheny County, PA (Pittsburgh), Julie tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases before both judges and juries.  Presently, she enjoys teaching trial advocacy.  She has taught in Temple’s highly regarded LL.M. program and served as a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

Julie is also an award-winning journalist.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media from Mount Union College, and has worked as an anchor and reporter at three television stations: WTOV in Steubenville, OH, WGHP in Greensboro, NC, and KDKA in Pittsburgh, PA, where she was also the station’s legal editor.  Her notable interviews include civil rights leader and literary icon Dr. Maya Angelou, famed criminal defense attorney F. Lee Bailey, world-renowned forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle.

Before combining her passions of journalism and law, Julie was able to pursue her love of dance at a high level by cheerleading professionally for the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

Court TV fans know Julie to have a genuine warmth and kindness, always showing compassion for victims on the network designed for true crime.  Driven by her heartfelt regard for victims’ advocacy, Julie serves on the board of the National Center for Victims of Crime.  She also serves as an advisory board member for the nationally recognized Paws for Empowerment program at Crisis Center North in Western Pennsylvania.  The program’s canine court advocates accompany domestic violence survivors to criminal court proceedings and provide therapy during private counseling sessions.

In her spare time, Julie enjoys reading autobiographies, cuddling her cat Rocky and her dog Reyna, weight training at the gym, and interacting with her fans on social media.  Important to Julie is sharing inspirational messages with others.  A personal favorite that she coined: “Preparation, persistence & passion are the keys to success!”
